Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball earned a doubleheader sweep over Salem on Sunday afternoon at Edge Field, taking game one 11-5 before walking off with an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Battling Bishops responded to an early deficit with an explosive offensive performance, totaling 15 hits in the 11-5 win. After Salem scored twice in the first, Wesleyan answered immediately as Ragan Holloman tripled and Savannah Bain drove in a run to tie the game. The Bishops took control in the second inning when Ramzie Bryant and Brooke Markiewicz each launched home runs to fuel a three-run frame. Wesleyan continued to build its lead throughout the game, highlighted by Bryant's second home run and a solo shot from Bain. Bain finished with three hits and three RBI, while Markiewicz added three hits and two RBI and Bryant drove in three runs. In the circle, Addyson Romanczyk went the distance to earn the win.
Game two featured a dramatic finish as Wesleyan rallied late to complete the sweep with an 8-7 win. The Bishops jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning behind a two-RBI double from Savannah Bain and capitalized on defensive miscues to add two more runs. After Salem responded with a three-run third inning and eventually took a 7-5 lead in the seventh, Wesleyan delivered in the final frame. Aleah Jones drew a walk to start the rally before Vivian Lloyd singled to put runners on. Kendall Wallace then drove in a run with a single, and Brooke Markiewicz followed with a game-tying RBI hit. Moments later, Ragan Holloman delivered the walk-off single to complete the comeback. Holloman led the offense with four hits, while Markiewicz added three hits and Bain drove in two runs. Wallace earned the win in relief as the Bishops capped off the sweep in thrilling fashion.
