Salisbury, M.D. - N.C. Wesleyan traveled to Maryland on Saturday for a doubleheader against nationally ranked Salisbury at Williams Stadium, battling in two tightly contested games but ultimately falling 5-4 in the opener and 5-3 in the nightcap.
In game one, the Battling Bishops responded quickly after Salisbury jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Wesleyan answered with a four-run second inning sparked by a double from Banks Hartman and an RBI single from Conner Ferebee. Hayes Hillier delivered a two-RBI double to give the Bishops the lead, and Schumata Brown followed with an RBI single to cap the rally. Hartman finished with three hits while Malachi Hayes and Brown each added multiple hits as Wesleyan collected 11 hits in the contest. Chase Chappell turned in a strong performance on the mound, tossing a complete eight innings and striking out five. However, Salisbury regained the lead in the third inning and held off the Bishops' late push to secure the 5-4 victory.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Wesleyan again struck early with a three-run first inning. Schumata Brown singled and later scored before Maison Nance delivered an RBI single that helped put the Bishops ahead 3-0. Salisbury answered with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning and added single runs in the fifth and seventh to take the lead. Nance recorded two hits while Brown added a base knock, accounting for three of Wesleyan's four hits in the game. On the mound, Colby Lewis worked six innings and struck out five before Ben Powers and Aaron Holley provided relief appearances. Despite the setback, the Battling Bishops showed resilience throughout the doubleheader against a strong Salisbury squad.
