Bishops Split Senior Day Doubleheader in Dramatic Fashion

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan hosted Mary Baldwin for a Senior Day doubleheader at Bauer Field on Saturday, dropping a tight game one before rallying for a dramatic comeback win in game two. In the opener, the Battling Bishops fell 5-3 despite jumping out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Banks Hartman drove in a run with an RBI single, Jake Flowers followed with an RBI base hit, and Hartman later scored on a steal of home to give Wesleyan the early advantage. The Bishops were limited to just three hits the rest of the way, as Maison Nance and Flowers each added hits. On the mound, Colby Lewis turned in a solid start, allowing just two earned runs over five innings, while Parker Sherrod, Drake Hobgood, and Tyler Jumper combined in relief. Mary Baldwin used timely hitting in the middle innings to pull ahead and hold on for the win.

In game two, Wesleyan delivered an exciting 9-8 walk-off victory, highlighted by a six-run ninth inning to cap off Senior Day in thrilling fashion. Trailing 8-3 entering the final frame, the Bishops erupted offensively as Jake Flowers sparked the rally with a two-RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Aydin Zimmerman. With the bases loaded, Schumata Brown delivered the game-winning two-RBI double to seal the comeback. Earlier in the game, Malachi Hayes launched a two-run home run, while Riley Anderson added a solo shot and an RBI. Brown and Maison Nance each recorded three hits, and Flowers finished with multiple RBIs to lead the offense. On the mound, Preston Workman earned the win after a scoreless ninth inning, closing out the comeback victory as Wesleyan split the Senior Day doubleheader.
