Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball earned a doubleheader sweep over Methodist on Tuesday afternoon at Edge Field, using strong offense in game one and dominant pitching in game two to secure the pair of victories.
In the opener, the Battling Bishops jumped out early and never looked back in a 9-2 win. After Methodist struck first, Wesleyan answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second, highlighted by a three-run home run from Kyiah Simmons. The Bishops continued to build their lead with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Wesleyan totaled 10 hits in the contest, with Kayla Simmons going 2-for-2 with an RBI and multiple runs scored, while Brooke Markiewicz reached base multiple times and scored three runs. Kendall Wallace was strong in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs on six hits.
Wesleyan carried that momentum into game two, securing a 4-0 shutout behind a dominant performance from Ava Strickland. The Bishops struck early again, plating one run in the first before adding three more in the second inning. Brooke Markiewicz drove in a run, while Kayla Simmons and Kyiah Simmons each added RBI during the early surge. Wesleyan finished with eight hits in the game, with Savannah Bain recording multiple hits and Kayla Simmons adding two hits. Strickland controlled the game in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out seven.
The sweep marked a complete performance for the Battling Bishops, combining timely hitting with strong pitching as Wesleyan controlled both games from start to finish.
