Salem, VA. — North Carolina Wesleyan continued play at the Roanoke Classic Friday evening with another competitive four-set performance, this time against Brevard College at the Cregger Center.
The Battling Bishops opened the match in a tightly contested first set, battling through 12 ties before Brevard narrowly took the frame 26-24. Wesleyan answered immediately in the second, responding with a 25-19 victory to even the match at one set apiece.
North Carolina Wesleyan continued to get contributions throughout the lineup offensively. Brooklynn Covic led the Bishops with 13 kills, while Ashley Hinton added nine and Savannah Banks finished with eight. Kendall Gleason provided a strong spark with six kills on 14 attempts and a .357 hitting percentage, while Sadie Schramm added four kills and hit .300.
The Bishops also put together a strong defensive effort, finishing with 91 digs as a team. Jadyn Smith led the way with 18 digs, followed closely by Emilee Wilson with 17. Chloe Baggett and Brooke Mandozzi each added 15 digs to give Wesleyan four players with at least 15 digs in the match.
Wilson once again helped direct the offense, finishing with 34 assists to go along with her 17 digs. Wesleyan totaled 49 kills in the match, four more than Brevard.
Brevard was able to take the final two sets, 25-18 and 25-21, to earn the 3-1 victory, but the Bishops once again showed strong defensive effort and balanced production across the lineup.
