Winchester, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan's softball team earned 10-7 victory in game two of Saturday's USA South doubleheader at Shenandoah University, securing a two-game split with the Hornets. SU had previously turned in a come-from-behind 6-5 victory in the opener.

In the victory, the Bishops had fallen behind 4-0 early but plated a trio of runs in the third to pull within one, 4-3. Freshman Carla Matthews drove in NCWC's first run, and sophomore Maria Seay latered followed with a two-run single to right.

The Hornets countered with three runs of their own in their half of the frame, but Wesleyan managed seven runs over their final three at-bats to secure the split.

Freshman Kendra Hoes got things started with a three-run homer in the fifth, while Ashley Tharrington and Meredith Mills combined for three RBIs in the sixth. Tharrington added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI-single that plated Hoes.

Freshman hurler Kelsi Bailey (5-7) picked up the win in the circle, going the distance.

In the opener, NCWC took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh only to see Shenandoah (15-10, 6-6 USA South) turn in a come-from-behind 6-5 win with two runs on two hits and an error. Hoes and sophomore Paige Pritchett paced the Bishop offense by each going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The loss was the second walkoff by Bishop opponents this week. On Wednesday, Meredith College (18-8, 6-4 USA South) erased a late 2-1 deficit en route to a 3-2 victory. The Angels completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout in game two. Sophomore Carly Creef was 4-for-8 on the day.

Wesleyan (13-13, 4-10 USA South) returns home on Tuesday to host William Peace University. The league twinbill is slated for a 3:00pm start at Edge Field.
