NCWC Softball Splits with William Peace on Pink Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop softball team hosted its 2015 Pink Day on Wednesday afternoon, turning in a USA South split with William Peace University at Edge Field. Players and fans showed their support of Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink both on and off the field.

Wesleyan took the opener by a 7-3 score behind another solid outing by freshman pitcher Logan Lowery. Lowery (5-8) allowed just two earned runs on seven hits in the complete game effort, while her teammates gave her all the offense she would need with a 5-spot in the third inning. Junior Jasmine Edgren delivered the big blow with a bases loaded double down the left field line that plated three runs.

Sarah Roberts, Carla Matthews and Makellah Mann also collected RBIs in the opener, with Mann going 3-for-3 at the plate.

Morgan Farmer (6-6) took the loss for WPU, while Shay Poteat tallied a pair of hits offensively.

In the nightcap, RBIs by Matthews and senior Kendra Hoes gave the Bishops an early 2-0 lead. The Pacers (17-12-1, 14-6 USA South) finally managed to get to Edgren in the sixth, putting up four runs for a 4-2 advantage.

NCWC's Brittany Manning drove in her sister Tiffany with a double to center in the sixth, and after Lowery shut down WPU in the seventh, Wesleyan looked to tie the game in its final at-bat. With Hoes on first with one out, Roberts sent a liner into the gap in left center that was sure to make the score 4-4. Pacer centerfielder Morgan Bryant, however, had other ideas and made a diving catch that essentially was a game-saver.

Edgren (9-4) took the loss, while Lauren Martin (6-2) picked up the complete-game victory. As a team, the Bishops out-hit the Pacers 12-11 in the contest. Hoes led the way with a 3-for-4 performance.

NCWC (14-14, 10-10 USA South) wraps up the regular season this weekend with home twinbills versus Huntingdon on Saturday and LaGrange on Sunday. Sunday will serve as Senior Day for the Bishops.
