First-Ever Meeting
Fresh off a dominant season-opening win, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball team will close out the William Peace Classic on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Bridgewater at 2:00 p.m. inside Hermann Athletic Center.
The Battling Bishops (1-0) opened their 2025–26 campaign with an 89–72 victory over Johnson & Wales on Saturday. Rashod Smith led a balanced Wesleyan attack with fifteen points, nine assists, and eight rebounds, while Markquan Gilbert and Ro'Mello Pegues each scored seventeen points off the bench. Wesleyan shot 46% from the field and forced thirteen turnovers, converting them into 23 fast-break points.
Bridgewater (1-0) is also coming off a season-opening win, defeating William Peace 76–70 on Saturday night. The Eagles were paced by senior forward Mason Ramey, who scored a career-high 22 points on 9-for-10 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds. Jahmir Brown added twenty points and two steals, helping Bridgewater overcome a late push by the Pacers.
Both teams enter Sunday's matchup with momentum and balanced scoring depth. Wesleyan will look to maintain its strong ball movement and rebounding edge after outboarding Johnson & Wales 46–31, while Bridgewater aims to build on its efficient inside scoring after totaling 40 points in the paint in its opener.
The matchup marks the first meeting between the programs in the William Peace Classic and concludes the opening weekend of non-conference play for both squads.
