Box Score Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball team put together a dominant all-around performance Wednesday afternoon, rolling past Regent 100–66 in a matinee matchup inside Everett Gymnasium.
Wesleyan set the tone early, building a quick lead and never looking back. The Bishops led 49–31 at halftime and exploded for 51 second-half points to cruise to their fourth win of the season. The victory improves Wesleyan to 4–2 overall, while Regent falls to 2–6.
Rashod Smith led a balanced Bishops attack with a game-high twenty points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding nine assists and two steals. Nasir Johnson followed with fourteen points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while James Jones knocked down three three-pointers on his way to thirteen points. DJ Benbow added fifteen points off the bench, and Markquan Gilbert chipped in ten points and six rebounds as the Bishops placed seven players in double figures.
North Carolina Wesleyan shot an efficient 57.1% from the floor and outscored Regent 62–26 in the paint. The Bishops also capitalized on turnovers, turning 25 Regent miscues into 27 points, while their bench contributed 38 points.
Regent was paced by Darrin Clark with fifteen points and Micah Eastman with eight, but the Royals were unable to keep pace with Wesleyan's pressure defense and transition scoring.
The Bishops used a 21–3 run late in the first half to blow the game open, pushing the lead to as many as 21 points before the break. Wesleyan continued to pull away in the second half, stretching the advantage to as many as 38 points before settling for the 34-point final margin.
