Men's Basketball Surges Past Southern Virginia to Advance to USA South Finals

Rocky Mount, NC - The second-seeded N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team put together a dominant performance on Thursday night, rolling to a 95-67 victory over third-seeded Southern Virginia in the USA South Semifinals. With the win, the Bishops advance to the USA South Championship Game for the second time in the past three seasons.

Wesleyan set the tone early, shooting over 51% from the field in the first half to build a commanding 46-27 lead at the break. The Bishops continued its efficient offensive play in the second half, connecting on 65% of its shots, including three timely three-pointers, to pull away for the 28-point win.

USA South Defensive Player of the Year, Khalid Chavis-Hinds led a balanced Bishop attack with nineteen points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Justin Burden followed closely behind with sixteen points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting night. Omari Bolden added ten points while dishing out five assists and grabbing four steals in a strong all-around performance.

Wesleyan's bench also played a crucial role, contributing 31 points, highlighted by James Jones and Kaleb Brooks, who both scored nine points apiece.

Defensively, the Bishops forced fifteen turnovers and converted them into 25 points.

Southern Virginia was led by Tillman Johnson, who scored a game-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. However, the Knights struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting just 38% from the field and 18% from three-point range.

With the win, the Bishops advance to the USA South Championship Game, where NCWU travels to top-seeded Pfeiffer on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
