Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan track & field program is gearing up for the upcoming USA South Track & Field Championship, set to take place at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC. The Bishops enter the championship meet with momentum, following an impressive performance at the D1 Pre-Nationals meet, where several student-athletes delivered standout results against strong competition.
Women's Track Highlights
Kamiyah Wooten continued her stellar indoor season, excelling across multiple events. Wooten placed 5th out of 48 competitors in the 200m, clocking a blazing 24.73 — a time that currently ranks her 5th nationally. In the 400m, she finished 6th out of 32 with a time of 57.64. Wooten also competed in the 60m, advancing through prelims with a time of 7.74 before placing 8th overall in the finals at 7.82. Her performances have solidified her place as one of the top sprinters in the South Region, where she holds the top regional ranking in both the 200m and 400m, and sits 2nd in the 60m.
Freshman KeSondra Pickett also made her mark at Pre-Nationals, competing in both sprints and field events. Pickett posted a 400m time of 1:01.23 to finish 24th out of 32, while her 200m time of 26.71 placed her 38th out of 48. Her performances in both events rank her 3rd overall in the USA South heading into the conference championship.
In the field events, Pickett delivered a strong showing in the triple jump with a mark of 10.81 meters (35'5.75"), the best performance in the USA South this season. She also registered a long jump mark of 4.81 meters (15'9.5"), placing her 4th in the conference rankings.
Women's Field Highlights
Christian Van Norden led the way for the Bishops' throwers with a solid outing in the shot put, finishing 6th out of 22 competitors with a throw of 12.16 meters (39' 10.75"). That throw is the best in the USA South this season. Van Norden also recorded a season-best mark in the weight throw at 11.75 meters (38'6.75"), ranking 3rd in the conference.
Men's Track Highlights
On the men's side, Juan Abascal represented the Bishops well in the middle distance events. Abascal finished 8th out of 14 in the 800m, clocking a time of 2:02.63. That performance places him 9th overall in the USA South rankings entering championship weekend.
