Softball Splits Doubleheader at Triangle Softball Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at the Triangle Softball Classic, falling to No. 4 Rowan in game one before bouncing back with a hard-fought victory over #23 Randolph-Macon in game two.

Game One: No. 4 Rowan 9, N.C. Wesleyan 0 (5 Innings)

Facing one of the top teams in the nation, the Bishops struggled to find offensive momentum as Rowan powered its way to a 9-0 victory in five innings.

Rowan jumped out early with three runs in the first, highlighted by a solo home run from McKenzie Melvin and a sacrifice fly from Abigail Pawlowski. The Profs continued to add on, scoring in each of the first four innings, including a two-run third inning that featured another home run from Pawlowski.

Offensively, Wesleyan managed just three hits, with Skyler Walker, Ragan Holloman, and Ava Lowry each recording a single. Rowan's Rylee Lutz held the Bishops in check, striking out seven and allowing just three hits in a complete-game shutout.

In the circle, Keira Boisvert took the loss after allowing three runs in the opening frame. Morgan Aycock and Katie Whitehurst combined for the final 4.1 innings of work, with Whitehurst not allowing a run over her two innings of relief.

Game Two: N.C. Wesleyan 4, #23 Randolph-Macon 2

The Bishops rebounded in game two behind timely hitting and solid pitching to earn a 4-2 victory over nationally ranked Randolph-Macon.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Wesleyan's offense came to life as Kyiah Simmons launched a solo home run to cut the deficit in half. In the fifth, the Bishops surged ahead when Alexis Whitfield blasted a two-run homer to left field, scoring Frances Hanshew to give Wesleyan a 3-2 lead.

The Bishops added an insurance run in the sixth as Ava Lowry delivered a solo home run, her first of the season, to push the lead to 4-2.

Addyson Romanczyk earned the win in the circle, tossing five solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three. Emily Humphrey closed the door with two shutout innings of relief, retiring all six batters she faced to earn the save.

Offensively, Simmons, Lowry, and Whitfield combined for all four RBIs, while Hanshew added two hits in the victory.
