Bishop Women Suffer Pair of 5-4 USA South Defeats

LaGrange, Ga. - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team suffered a pair of tough 5-4 defeats in USA South play this weekend, falling at Piedmont and LaGrange on Saturday and Sunday. Samia Kacher went 2-0 at #1 singles and 1-1 at #1 doubles, as did fellow seniors Tori Jones and Bristy Parker at the #3 and #4 singles flights, respectively, and the #2 doubles slot.

Versus Piedmont on Saturday, the Lions took a 2-1 lead in doubles play as Kacher teamed with freshman Katie Beeman for an 8-5 win at the top seed. In singles play, Kacher was a three-set winner at the #1 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-4), while Jones also won in three sets at #3 (3-6, 6-4, 6-2). Parker won in straights at the #4 position, but Piedmont was able to take a pair of three-set wins at #5 and #6 to steal the win.

Against LaGrange on Sunday, Wesleyan again fell behind 2-1 in doubles play. Jones and Parker earned the Bishops' lone point with a dominating 8-1 win at the #2 flight. Kacher, Jones and Parker proceeded to breeze to a trio of straight-set wins in singles play, but it would once again be a three-set loss at the #5 seed that would leave NCWC with a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat.

Wesleyan continues USA South play on Thursday when the Bishops travel to Meredith College.
