Sikh Picks Up Trio of Singles Victories at UMW Tri-Match

Fredericksburg, Va. - Junior Sebastian Sikh went a combined 3-0 at #1 and #2 singles, but it was not enough to lift his Bishop men's tennis team to victory in Wesleyan's season-opening tri-match hosted by the University of Mary Washington.

The Bishops opened play on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to #37 Sewanee. Sikh teamed with sophomore Ioannis Brokakis for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles, then earned a straight-set victory at #2 singles (6-2, 6-1). Junior David Chang earned NCWC's third point with a straight-set win at #6 (6-4, 6-4). Wesleyan narrowly missed a point at #3 singles as sophomore J.D. Telles fell in three sets, while Brokakis and Henry Lam dropped tight matches at #1 and #5, respectively.

Wesleyan dropped its second 6-3 decision later in the evening to Stevens University. Sikh, Brokakis, and Telles were all straight-set winners at the top three singles seeds, while Sikh and Brokakis dropped a tough 9-8 match at #1 doubles.

Versus #27 Mary Washington on Sunday, Sikh managed NCWC's lone point with a 6-2, 7-5 win at #2 singles.

Wesleyan opens USA South play next weekend with matches versus Greensboro and Averett on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Bishops will also host matches with Shaw and Randolph-Macon those same days. Saturday's contests are slated for 2:00pm starts at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center, while Sunday's action gets underway at noon.
