Men's Tennis Cruises Past Captains

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 15th ranked N.C. Wesleyan College men's tennis team cruised past non-conference foe and 33rd ranked Christopher Newport University 8-1 on the road Friday afternoon.

The men improve to 4-1 on the season and were back in action Saturday to play #16 Johns Hopkins University (Md.).

Wesleyan swept the singles portion of the match winning 4 of the 6 matches in two sets while junior Jesus Gil and freshman Juan Vallejo won in thrilling three-set matches in #4 and #5 singles respectively. Gil won 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 while Vallejo won 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Senior Giannis Brokakis won 6-2, 7-5 in #1 singles while sophomore Roberto Puig won 6-4, 7-5 in #2 singles. Sophomore Aditya Iyer took #3 singles 7-5, 6-3 while the current USA South rookie of the week, Jhonny Acosta, won at #6 singles 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Gil and Ayer won 8-3 in #3 doubles while Acosta and junior Ingmar Remmerswaal won 8-3 in #2 doubles. Puig and Brokakis lost 8-7 in #1 doubles unfortunately.
