Women Shut Out Shaw in Home Opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team cruised to a season-opening dual win at home on Thursday shutting out Div. II Shaw University 9-0.

 They were led by freshman Fariza Abdulloeva, the #12 ranked player in the country, as she routed her foe 6-1 and 6-0 in #1 singles. Fariza also teamed with Talitha Rowan to win a thrilling #1 Doubles match 8-7 and 10-8 in the tiebreaker. 

Milena Amedieva won in #2 singles, Guila Zanetti won in #3 singles (7-6, 6-2), Julianna Johnson in #4 singles (6-2, 6-3), Stephnay Barbera in #5 singles (6-4, 6-3), and Louise Hovhammer in #6 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Amedieva and Johnson also teamed up to win 8-3 in #2 doubles while Zanetti and Nicole Halabi won in #3 doubles 8-6.

The women, 1-0, will not be in action again until Feb. 22 when they go on the road to play at Chowan University at 2 PM.
