Men's Tennis Outplay Methodist for 11th straight USA South Title

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The top seeded and 23rd ranked NC Wesleyan College Men's Tennis team ran through 2nd seeded rival Methodist University 5-0 to win their 11th straight USA South Conference Title on Sunday afternoon in LaGrange.

Senior Giannis Brokakis was named tournament MVP while 3 other Bishops were named to the all-tournament team. Head Coach Albie Brice was named Coach of the Year in the conference as well as he led the team to a 21-2 overall record and 10-0 in conference.

After the Bishops swept through doubles 8-3 (Brokakis & Puig at #1), 8-1 (Iyer & Vallejo at #2), and 8-5 (Ingmar Remmerswaal & Telles at #3), freshman Nikita Revin at #6 singles and sophomore Aditya Iyer at #2 singles won their respective matches to clinch the championship for Wesleyan. Revin won first 6-2, 6-1 before Iyer won 6-1, 6-1 to give the Bishops the title. 

Three other Bishops were also leading their respective matches when the title was clinched as well. Sophomore Player of the Year Roberto Puig was leading 6-3, 3-2 at #1 singles while senior J.D. Telles was on the verge of clinching his #5 singles bout, 6-2, 5-0. Freshman Jhonny Acosta, the 3x Rookie of the Week, was also leading his bout at #4 singles, 7-5, 3-2.

The men have not lost a conference match since 2009 during their title winning streak and will look now to the upcoming D-3 National Tournament and will find out their opponent when the draw is released on Monday.
