Women Defeat Shaw 7-2 in Opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team opened up their season on Monday afternoon at home by defeating Div. II Shaw University (N.C.) 7-2 at the Slick Family Tennis Center.

Wesleyan got off to a 2-1 lead after 3 doubles matches with the pairing of sophomore Fariza Abdulloeva and senior Chandler Brice winning 8-3 while junior Giulia Zanetti and senior Nicole Halabi won by default at #3 doubles. 

Abdulloeva then dominated her singles foe 6-0, 6-0 at the top line while Zanetti won 6-1, 6-3 at the 2 line. at the third spot, Shaw got a win over freshman Kimia Rahmani while Halabi won 6-2, 6-2 at the 4 line. Junior Ana Aguilar then edged out her foe in three sets, 7-6, 0-6, 10-1 at the fifth line with junior Chandler Brice picking up a forfeit win as well.

The Bishops will next return to action on February 26 at Mount Olive.
