Women's Tennis Defeat Averett 6-3

DANVILLE, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team ousted conference foe Averett University 6-3 on the road Wednesday afternoon.

Welseyan took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches as the top two lines would win 8-2 and 8-1. Freshmen Stefanie Wilske and Elisa Mariotti won at the top line while seniors Talitha Rowan and Giulia Zanetti won at the two line 8-1.

Wilske, Zanetti, and Mariotti then swept their matches in straight sets at the top three lines in singles to clinch the match for the Lady Bishops. Wilske won 6-3, 6-4 over former NCWC player Louise Hovhammer at the top spot while Zanetti won 6-3, 6-0 at the two spot, Mariotti then won 6-2, 6-1 at the three spot.

Also grabbing a win for the Bishops was junior Chandler Brice at the six line winning 6-3, 6-4.

Wesleyan improves to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in conference while AU falls to 6-3 and 2-1 in the East.

The Bishop women will return to action on Monday traveling to Meredith College at 4:30 PM.
