Baseball Falls at Johns Hopkins in Final Game of Baltimore Invite

Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The NC Wesleyan Baseball team completed their Baltimore Invitational over the weekend as they fell 7-1 at Johns Hopkins University (2-1) on Sunday afternoon.

Junior CF Drifton Padgett staked the Bishops to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as he doubled in junior 2B Davie Morgan, who had also doubled to lead off the game.

However, that would be all the offense the Bishops could muster on this day as JHU pitching would shut them down over the final 8 innings.

Wesleyan senior starter Drew Tubb gave up a tough-luck three-run homer in the first, but would then settle down to hold the Blue Jays to just one run over the next 6 innings to keep Wesleyan in the game. He finished allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, one walk and 8 strikeouts over 6 innings.

Relievers Alex Crosby and Clayton Gilmore then combined to allow 3 runs and 3 hits over the final two innings. Offensively, NCWC was led almost entirely by Padgett as he went 3 for 4 with a triple, single and double.

The Bishops fall to 5-4 on the year and will not return to action until Saturday when they go on the road to battle Roanoke College in a 1:00 DH.
