#13 Men's Tennis Sweeps all Three Opponents on Friday

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The #13 NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team defeated all three conference foes on Friday winning two of them on the road in Southern Virginia 7-2 and 7-0 and cruising past William Peace at home 9-0.

NCWC 7, SVU 2

In the toughest match of the day, the Bishops fell behind 2-1 early after the three doubles matches as the top team of seniors Jhonny Acosta and JP Vallejo fell 8-4 while fellow seniors Max Robinson and Roberto Puig lost a heartbreaking match 8-7 at the 2 line falling 8-6 in the tiebreaker. The team of junior Thato Holmes and sophomore John Falke then picked up an 8-4 win at the third doubles line.

Leading the way in singles was 3rd ranked Acosta winning 6-3, 6-0 at the top line while Falke won 6-3, 6-2 at the two line. Puig then won 6-3, 6-0 at the third spot before junior Augusto Roca helped clinch the win with his 6-2, 6-1 win at the fourth spot. The freshmen duo of Luca Knese and Diego Segovia then each won at the 5 and 6 spots, respectively, as well helping Wesleyan to the comeback win. Knese won 6-2, 6-2 while Segovia won 6-1, 6-0.

NCWC 7, MARY BALDWIN 0

In Wesleyan's second road conference match of the day, the Bishops eased by the Squirrels of Mary Baldwin 7-0 led by the doubles teams of freshmen Bernardo Messineo and Valentin Morelli winning 8-1 at the top line and freshman Alessandro Iriau and sophomore Franco Milivinti 8-0 at the 2 spot.

Singles winners included Morelli at the top spot 6-1, 6-0 and Messineo 6-0, 6-0 at the second spot. Iriau then won 6-0, 6-0 at the third spot while Milivinti won 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth line. Freshman Davide Simonini also won 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot. 

MBU falls to 1-15 overall and 1-5 in the conference. 

NCWC 9, WPU 0

In Wesleyan's home match on Friday, the Bishops faced William Peace in a non-conference rematch and did not drop a single game throughout the match. They were led in doubles by the top line team of sophomore Andy Fanzaga and senior Ingmar Remmerswaal, the second line team of senior Ignacio Alia and sophomore Joaquin Micheloni and the third team of junior Matan Amitay and sophomore Gustavo Rivas as they each won by 8-0 scores.

Wesleyan then posted four single match wins by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0 led by Rivas at the top line, Micheloni at the two line, freshman Bhodan Zhylchuk of Ukraine at the three spot, and Amitay at the fourth spot. Sophomore Vittorio Noli and freshman Juan Agustin Rivas then won by scores of 8-0 in their matches at the 5 and 6 lines.  WPU falls to 2-5.

The Bishops are now 18-3 on the year and 5-0 in the conference and will next return home to host Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 2:00  PM.
