Virginia Beach, VA - The N.C. Wesleyan women's track & field program is looking to win its first individual national championship at the NCAA DIII Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA this weekend. The program will send three sprinters up for the meet including
Kamiyah Wooten,
Mariah Brooks, and
Ti'Asia Bryant. In the 60-meter event, all three ladies will be competing with a strong chance at podium positions, as they have routed the south region in the event this season.
At the USA South Indoor Championship, Wesleyan swept the podium and cruised past the competition as
Mariah Brooks took home the inaugural conference crown with an incredible time of 7.70 seconds. Just behind her by a tenth of a second was USA South Rookie Athlete of the Meet
Kamiyah Wooten, who ran a 7.71. In the third position,
Ti'Asia Bryant ran her way to the podium, coming in at under 7.90 seconds.
This past weekend, Bryant would run a season best time of 7.68 seconds to secure a spot at nationals and making sure Wesleyan would have three athletes represented in the same event for the first time in school history at nationals.
Freshman phenom
Kamiyah Wooten will also be partaking in the 200-meter dash and currently holds the fastest time in the NCAA this year. Her time of 24.19 seconds is not only the fastest time in all of the NCAA this year, but the third fastest time in the event's history.
