Baseball Headed to CNU for NCAA Regionals

Newport News, VA - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team has been selected for the second straight year to participate in the NCAA Tournament after earning the automatic bid out of the USA South. The Battling Bishops will enter the 2024 Newport News Regional as the #3 seed hosted by Christopher Newport and face the #2 seed Scranton Royals in the first round on Friday at 1:30 PM.

Looking to hoist its third NCAA National Championship, the Battling Bishops finished the year ranked #17 in the D3baseball.com poll and #18 in the ABCA Coaches Poll. With an overall record of 33-11, Wesleyan earned eight all-conference selections including USA South Player of the Year Tyson Bass and USA South Pitcher of the Year Cord Butler.

Hosting the regional, the Captains are a familiar opponent for Wesleyan, as the two teams split midweek contests in the regular season. Conference champions hailing from the C2C, CNU has an overall record of 26-9 and will appear in the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time.

Facing off with the Battling Bishops, the Royals enter the Newport News Regional as Landmark Conference Champions with a record of 30-11 on the season. This year marks the second ever appearance in the big dance for the Royals, the other coming in 2021.

The #4 seed in the region is the Immaculata Mighty Macs who the Atlantic East Conference with a record of 26-16. The Newport News Regional will be the Mighty Macs third straight tournament appearance.
