Whispering Pines, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan men's golf team put forth a strong effort at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational, competing over two challenging rounds at the Country Club of Whispering Pines.
Leading the Bishops was Lucas Perez Souts, who posted rounds of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4) to finish at +6 for the tournament. He was steady throughout both rounds, playing well on the front nine in round one with a score of 37 and matching that performance on the back nine. In round two, he remained consistent, again scoring 39 on the front and improving slightly to 37 on the back.
Mason Fischer matched Perez Souts' overall tournament score at +6 after rounds of 75 (+3) and 75 (+3). His first round saw him record a 39 on the front nine before settling into a strong back nine with a 36. He maintained his form in round two, shooting another 39 on the front before carding a 36 on the back to close out his tournament.
Myles Patterson showed improvement between rounds, bouncing back from an opening-round 80 (+8) with a 77 (+5) in round two. His first-round front nine score of 38 gave him a promising start, but he encountered some difficulties on the back with a 42. He made adjustments in the second round, posting a solid 38 on the front and improving to a 39 on the back.
Juan Pielach also improved in his second round, following an opening-round 81 (+9) with a 77 (+5). His first round was split between a 40 on the front and 41 on the back. In round two, he steadied his game, shaving strokes off both sides of the course with a 41 on the front and a strong 36 on the back.
Matteo Tonin rounded out the lineup, posting scores of 83 (+11) and 86 (+14). He played a balanced first round with a 39 on the front and a 44 on the back. His second round proved more challenging, with a front nine score of 44 and a back nine of 42 to finish the tournament at +25 overall.
