Rocky Mount, NC - Tuesday's non-conference matchup between the N.C. Wesleyan baseball team and Christopher Newport was cut short due to inclement weather, with the game officially canceled in the bottom of the third inning at Bauer Field. At the time of stoppage, the Battling Bishops held an 8-5 advantage over the Captains.
The contest got off to an action-packed start, as both offenses came out swinging in the opening innings. After Christopher Newport plated three runs in the top of the first, Wesleyan immediately responded with three of its own, highlighted by an RBI walk from Caleb Elias and a two-run single off the bat of Jacob Trivette.
The Captains regained the lead with two more runs in the second inning, but the Bishops continued to answer, pushing across five runs in the home half of the second. Javier Quintana delivered an RBI single, while Elias, Maison Nance, and Brady Williams each added run-scoring hits to give Wesleyan the 8-5 edge before the game was halted.
Jackson Ellyson reached base twice and scored two runs for the Bishops, while Quintana, Elias, Trivette, Nance, and Williams each drove in runs during the offensive surge. On the mound, Nathanael Volk and Justin McDonald combined to work the first three innings for Wesleyan.
Due to NCAA policy regarding halted contests, the game will not count toward either team's overall record or individual statistics, as the game did not reach the minimum number of innings to be considered official.
