Albert Sitwell of the men's tennis program has been named the 2024–25 Male Student-Athlete of the Year. A standout performer on the court and a leader within the program, Sitwell receives the prestigious honor after a remarkable junior campaign that helped propel the Bishops to a USA South Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Hailing from Wotton-under-Edge, United Kingdom, and a product of Rugby School, Sitwell was a dominant presence in Wesleyan's lineup this past season. He posted an impressive 13-9 overall singles record, including an 8-8 mark in dual matches and a perfect 3-0 record in conference play. In doubles action, he was just as effective, compiling a 21-10 overall record. Most notably, Sitwell and partner Luca Knese delivered a 17-10 overall doubles mark and went undefeated (3-0) in USA South matches, providing a steady force at the top of the doubles lineup.
Sitwell's consistency in high-level matches was highlighted by a perfect 4-0 record with fellow junior Logan Stoltz and several wins over regionally ranked opponents throughout the season. His performance was instrumental in Wesleyan's 13-13 overall finish, including a 6-0 sweep through the USA South.
"Albert is everything you want in a student-athlete," said Head Coach Albie Brice. "He's consistent, competitive, and leads by example every single day. He's been a major part of our success, and we're thrilled to see him recognized for his hard work and impact."
Director of Athletics Aaron Denton echoed that sentiment: "Albert represents the complete package of what it means to be a student-athlete at N.C. Wesleyan. His work ethic, leadership, and integrity have set a standard for others to follow, and we're proud to recognize his outstanding contributions with this award."
Sitwell becomes the latest in a long line of Bishop tennis standouts to earn major end-of-year honors, further cementing Wesleyan's national reputation as a powerhouse in Division III tennis.
