Box Score

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The NC Wesleyan College Football team put on a big offensive showing on the road at LaGrange College (Ga.) on Saturday scoring 52 points en route to a 52-35 win to open conference play.

The Bishops began the game with a 14-play 72 yard drive ending with a 2 yard touchdown pass from senior QB Donielle Totten to senior tight end Ben Dorfman. After a LaGrange TD two minutes later, the Bishops came back with a quick strike score as sophomore WR Jai Irvin caught a 72 yard TD pass from Totten to make it 14-6. Wesleyan then made it 21-6 as senior RB Darian Curley ran it in from 26 yards out.

The Bishops would take a 21-13 lead into halftime. Wesleyan then began the third with another touchdown drive going 62 yards in 6 plays ending with a 1 yard TD run from freshman RB Javun Thomas to make it 28-13. LC would then come back and cut the Bishop lead to 7 at 28-21 with a score and 2-point conversion, but the Bishops would not relent as they would answer that with their own TD a minute later on a 43 yard run from Curley making it 35-21.

After another LaGrange score, the Bishops would again trade touchdowns with the Panthers as junior RB Jeff Black ran it in for the score from two yards out to start the fourth putting Wesleyan up 42-28. LC would again cut into the Bishop lead trimming it to 7 with 11:30 to play. However, Wesleyan would score the final 10 points of the game to put it away using an Eddie Graham field goal and a Curley 31 yard run for the win.

Wesleyan put up nearly 500 yards of offense in the win led by Totten's 210 yards passing and Curley's season-high of 174 yards on the ground as he averaged 9.7 yards a carry. Irvin also collected 91 yards receiving while sophomore WR Tyler Roberts also caught 3 balls for 39 yards.

Graham also led in tackles with 7 along with an interception as he did double-duty again kicking and as a cornerback while senior LB Antonio Johnson also added 6 tackles. Collecting sacks were senior LB Isaiah Williams, junior LB TaBronze Carr, and DE R.J. Smalls while combining for 13 tackles.

Wesleyan improves to 2-2 on the year (1-0 in USA South) while dropping LC to 2-2 as well. The Bishops will now return home to host Greensboro College on Homecoming next Saturday at Noon for the first-ever on campus home game.
