Women Put Away Greensboro

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team pulled away from conference foe Greensboro College with a dominating third quarter to win 77-69 on the road Saturday evening.

After GC took a 22-19 lead after one quarter, the Bishops would come back to outscore the Pride 20-15 in the second to take a 39-37 lead at the break. Wesleyan then held the Pride to just 12 points in the third quarter en route to out-pacing them 19-12 to lead 58-49 going to the fourth. Wesleyan would then stretch their lead to 13 midway through the fourth at 70-57 before some late threes by the Pride made the final score closer than it was.

The Bishops were led by a balanced scoring attack as Wesleyan shot nearly 45 percent for the game with three women scoring in double-figures led by junior forward Myrayna Watkins' 13 points and team-best 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Freshman forward Kayrisma Harrison also scored 13 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block in the win.

Junior guard Cydney Nichols also played well knocking down 3 three-pointers as she scored 12 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist. The guard trio of juniors Kayla Johnson and Keorra Taylor and freshman Nyesha Best all scored 9 points apiece in the win. Best also added 4 rebounds and a team-high 3 assists while junior forward Kneciya Tripp added 6 points and 6 rebounds with a block.

Wesleyan now improves to 17-5 overall, their most wins in a season in over 20 years since the 1998-99 season. They are also 12-2 in the conference, just one game back of division leader William Peace. Greensboro falls to 13-9 and 9-5 in the conference as they sit in 4th place.

The women return home Wednesday night to host Averett University on Play4Kay and Senior Night at 7 PM.
