Indoor Track and Field Opens Indoor Season with Historic Performances at Liberty Kickoff

Lynchburg, VA - The N.C. Wesleyan track and field program kicked off its indoor season in spectacular fashion at the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, VA, facing off against some of the top Power Five competition. Sophomore Kamiyah Wooten made history in the 300-meter race, breaking the NCAA DIII collegiate record with a time of 39.15 seconds. Wooten finished 5th overall in a field of 39 athletes, becoming only the third DIII woman to break the 40-second barrier. Her performance also disrupted Duke University's top 5 sweep, showcasing her elite talent. Additionally, Wooten currently leads the conference in the 60-meter race, clocking a NCAA top-25 time of 7.81 seconds.

Freshman KeySondra Pickett from Rocky Mount High School, also had a standout performance, leading the conference in both the 200-meter (26.15) and 400-meter (1:01.65) races. Her 200-meter time ranks her 37th in the NCAA, signaling a strong start to her collegiate career. Pickett's success continued in the triple jump, where she leads the conference with a mark of 10.66 meters (34'11.75"), a distance that would have earned her last year's indoor conference title.

Christian Van Norden rounded out the standout performances for the Battling Bishops, leading the conference in the shot put with a throw of 11.68 meters, finishing 9th in a competitive field of 37 at Liberty.
