Winston-Salem, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan track & field program competed at the inaugural USA South Indoor Track & Field Championships and had a day for the record books. Taking home five individual conference championships and sweeping the podium in the women's 60-meter and 200-meter dash events, Coach Dunn has his squad poised headed into nationals. In the 60-meter dash,
Mariah Brooks claimed the top spot in the with a swift time of 7.70 seconds, leading a podium sweep alongside
Kamiyah Wooten and
Ti'Asia Bryant who ran times of 7.72 and 7.75 seconds respectively. The trio continued their dominant performance by also sweeping the 200-meter dash, as Wooten secured first place with a blazing time of 24.89 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, Wooten stood out once again, becoming the only competitor finishing in under a minute with a time of 58 seconds flat. This would also propel her to being named the first ever USA South Indoor Championship Rookie Female Athlete of the Meet.
In the field events, the Battling Bishops would claim both conference titles in the shot-put, with
Christian Van Norden and
Desmond Barnes clinching conference crowns with impressive throws. Van Norden's throw would land at 12.57m, nearly two meters ahead of the second place finisher.
Desmond Barnes would bring home the title with a throw of 12.83m.
Looking ahead to the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships, the Battling Bishops are poised to put on a dominant display in Virginia Beach.
