Track & Field Shines at USA South Outdoor Championships

Concord, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan track and field teams posted a strong showing at the 2025 USA South Outdoor Championships, highlighted by multiple individual titles, personal bests, and top-three finishes from the Battling Bishops.

Wooten Leads the Charge with Triple Gold

Sophomore standout Kamiyah Wooten had an outstanding meet, capturing three individual conference titles. Wooten claimed first place in the 100m dash (12.10), the 200m dash (25.14), and the 400m dash (56.78), contributing maximum points in each event for the Bishops. She was also a key leg on both of Wesleyan's championship-winning relay teams, including the 4x100m relay (47.48) and the 4x400m relay (4:07.90).

Bryant, Pickett Add Big Points in Sprints and Relays

Joining Wooten at the top of the sprint leaderboard, sophomore Ti'asia Bryant delivered runner-up finishes in both the 100m (12.29) and 200m (25.22), while also placing fourth in the 400m (1:02.03). Freshman KeSondra Pickett made a major impact in her conference debut, finishing fifth in the 100m (13.00), fifth in the 200m (26.04, PR), and fifth in the 400m (1:02.09, SB). Pickett also added points with a third-place finish in the long jump (5.17m) and a gold medal performance in the triple jump (11.50m, PR).

Bryant and Pickett, along with Wooten and freshman T'Miya Bryant, teamed up to win the 4x100m relay, while Bryant, Pickett, Wooten, and freshman Shamaya Lynch combined for gold in the 4x400m relay.

Lynch Scores in Hurdles

Freshman Shamaya Lynch contributed points in the 100m hurdles, placing seventh in the finals with a personal-best time of 18.94 after qualifying through the prelims.

Barnes Claims Podium Finish in Throws

On the men's side, senior Desmond Barnes earned a third-place finish in the shot put (13.46m, PR) and placed sixth in the discus (37.76m) to add valuable points to the team total.

Additional Top Performances

  • Juan Abascal placed sixth in the men's 800m (2:00.15) and added a top-10 finish in the 1500m (4:26.15).

  • Omar Rodriguez reached the finals in the men's 400m and set a personal best in the 200m (23.68) during prelims.
