Battling Bishops Outlook
The Bishops have looked dominant through its opening two games, scoring a combined 113 points while showcasing explosive playmaking on offense and a stout defensive front.
In the season opener, Wesleyan overwhelmed Averett 64–12 behind 627 yards of total offense. Quarterback Javier Rice threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns, while Nahjir Seagraves broke loose for 152 rushing yards, including an 86-yard score. Wideouts Michael Pannell and Tyson Resper each added long touchdown receptions as the Bishops' offense put the game away early.
Wesleyan followed with a 49–16 road victory at Newport News Apprentice, led by another big day on the ground. Seagraves finished with 159 rushing yards and four touchdowns, highlighted by a 76-yard breakaway run. Rice added a 32-yard touchdown strike to Marti McKnight, while the Bishop defense and special teams contributed a blocked punt returned for a score by Mathias Winston. Defensively, NCWU has allowed just 29 total points across two games, holding opponents to under three yards per carry.
Scouting Sewanee
The Tigers (1–1) enter Saturday's matchup coming off a home loss to Brevard, 26–10. Sewanee opened the year with an impressive 41–6 win at Bethany, piling up 358 total rushing yards while forcing multiple turnovers.
Quarterback Cam Beasley is the Tigers' dual-threat leader, having accounted for 226 passing yards and two touchdowns in the opener while rushing for 132 yards. He added another rushing score last week against Brevard. Running back Barton Mixon has been a short-yardage weapon with three touchdowns already this season. Defensively, linebacker John Wolfenbarger leads Sewanee with nineteen tackles through two games, while the secondary has made key plays including a pick-six in week one.
The Tigers lean on a balanced offense that can control tempo with the run game and spread the field with Beasley's ability to extend plays.
