Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan University Department of Athletics celebrated its storied tradition of excellence on Monday evening with the 60th Annual Athletic Awards Banquet, honoring the achievements, leadership, and resilience of Battling Bishop student-athletes, coaches, and staff across more than twenty programs.
Held in Minges Auditorium in front of a packed crowd of student-athletes and coaches, the event reflected on another memorable year of Bishop athletics filled with championship moments, personal milestones, and inspiring stories of perseverance and leadership.
The evening was emceed by N.C. Wesleyan Sports Information Director Bayden Collins, who opened the ceremony by recognizing the commitment and passion of the Bishop community. Director of Athletics Aaron Denton also addressed the crowd, sharing his gratitude for the dedication of Wesleyan's student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and staff.
Department Awards
The banquet began by honoring Kimla Brandt with the 2025 Wesleyan Athletic Service Award for her tireless work supporting the athletic department through camp coordination, facility logistics, and administrative leadership.
The department also unveiled a brand-new honor—the Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award—recognizing one male and one female graduating senior who embody excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

The evening concluded with the prestigious Jim Sabiston Award, presented annually to the student-athlete who best represents the perseverance, leadership, and spirit of Battling Bishop athletics. This year's honoree was Anthony German (Football), whose journey of resilience and commitment stood as a testament to the heart of the program.

The banquet also honored graduating seniors across all teams, recognizing non four-year, four-year, and fifth-year student-athletes whose dedication and leadership have shaped the legacy of Battling Bishop athletics.
Reflecting on the evening, Sports Information Director Bayden Collins shared,
"This night is about more than trophies or stats—it's about the stories, the work, the heart, and the people who make this place so special. Every athlete in this room has been part of something bigger than themselves, and that's what it means to be a Battling Bishop."
Director of Athletics Aaron Denton echoed that sentiment, stating,
"The success of our programs is driven by the dedication of our student-athletes and the passion of our coaches and staff. This banquet is our opportunity to pause, celebrate, and recognize the incredible effort and character that each of you brings to Wesleyan every single day."
The ceremony closed with a heartfelt message from Denton and a special highlight video showcasing the most memorable moments of the 2024–25 athletic season presented by Moodie Visuals.
