Tony Ferrell coached the North Carolina Wesleyan men’s soccer team from 1980 to 1988 and  at the time of his induction, was the school’s all-time winningest coach with a record of 100-62-13.

During his first three years of rebuilding the team, his teams posted a 15-37-3 record. His next six years produced 85 wins, 25losses and 10 ties. He was named the Dixie Conference Coach of the Year in 1984 when his team was 16-2-2, finishing second in the Dixie and making the program's first NCAA appearance. His 1987Bishops were Co-Champions of the Dixie with a 6-1 record, finishing17-2-2 overall. That same season, Wesleyan made its second NCAA Tournament appearance, losing in the first round4-3 in two overtimes.

In 1988, Ferrell’s team won the Dixie with a 5-0-1 record and he was once again named Dixie Coach of the Year. The Bishops returned to the NCAA Tournament, beating Mary Washington in the first round 1-0 before losing in the second.
